Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts labels, sized to your packaging

Create a Supplement Facts label

For dietary supplements, the FDA requires a Supplement Facts label instead of Nutrition Facts, with its own rules for what is listed, in what order, and how small the text can be. Enter the product and the space you have on the package. The tool builds a print-ready label at that size, never letting text drop below the legal minimum, and tells you the smallest size that works if the space is too small.

Serving

Who the product is for

Percents use the FDA's Daily Values for each group you pick, one column per group.

Columns of numbers

Most labels have one. You can add a per day column when the label recommends more than one serving a day, or a column per packet or unit. Instead of a per day column, the serving size can say it in parentheses, for example "1 Caplet (Multiply amounts by 3 for total daily amount)".

Nutrients with a Daily Value

Calories, fats, carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals. Add every one the product contains at 2% of the Daily Value or more; below that, the FDA says to leave it off. They print in the FDA's order whatever order you add them in.

Anything without a Daily Value: herbs, amino acids, fatty acids, and proprietary blends. They print below the nutrients, in the order listed here.

Ingredient list

Everything else in the product: capsule shell, fillers, binders, colors, flavors, and any source not named inside the label. It prints directly under the label.

Layout check

Every FDA layout is checked twice: is it allowed for this package, and does it physically fit in the space.

  • Standard (tall)selectedtext 7% larger than the FDA minimum

The normal tall label, as in the FDA sample labels. Always allowed.

Smallest size that meets FDA rules: 3.50 x 4.36 in

    FDA rule: 21 CFR 101.36(e)(4)

  • Split into side-by-side lists (2)not allowed here

Not allowed here: the standard label fits, and the FDA only allows splitting the list when it does not.

    FDA rule: 21 CFR 101.36(e)(12)

  • Single linenot allowed here

Not allowed: the package has 60 sq in of printable area, and this layout is only for packages of 40 sq in or less.

    FDA rule: 21 CFR 101.36(i)(2), 101.9(j)(13)(ii)(A)

  • The package has 60 sq in of printable area, over 40 sq in, so the standard minimums apply: 8 pt text, with 6 pt allowed for column headings and footnotes.FDA rule: 21 CFR 101.36(e)(4)
